Arte: Selections from the UTSA Art Collection
I had the privilege of creating a book for The Office of the President at The University of Texas at San Antonio. The book presents a selection of 50 works by prominent regional, national, and international artists, including many from San Antonio. These museum-quality paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and mixed media pieces offer insights into the culture, history, and explorations of identity that have shaped UTSA over its first five decades, especially the rich Hispanic cultural heritage of San Antonio.
This book is a physical and intellectual expression of the desire to expand knowledge, which is at the heart of UTSA’s shared mission. The 50 artists selected for this book offer a good representation of the scope of the art collection. These artists come from diverse backgrounds, countries, and different stages of their careers, presenting artworks in various media and styles.
The UTSA Art Collection is a resource for teaching, research, and curatorial training for students and faculty. This book is an invaluable tool because it provides readers with the opportunity to see the range of the art collection for the first time. The artworks presented in this publication exemplify the virtuosity found in the university's permanent collection. These are the works of gifted artists who educate, empower, and captivate the imagination.
